HireUTexas for Students & Alumni

HireUTexas powered by Handshake is the all-inclusive job board where UT Austin students and alumni can connect with local, national and global employers offering career-oriented opportunities and internships, as well as campus employment, work-study and part-time jobs.

As of July 1, 2020, all work-study, campus employment and part-time jobs previously posted in Hire-A-Longhorn can now be found in HireUTexas.

All UT Austin undergraduate and graduate students have a HireUTexas account. Activate your account by logging in with your UT EID and password to search for opportunities, connect with employers and schedule career coaching appointments.

Trouble logging in with your UT EID:
If you do not remember your UT EID or need to reactive your UT EID or password, you can manage your UT EID.

Can I restrict my directory information and still have a HireUTexas account?
In order to set up a HireUTexas account on your behalf, the following fields cannot be restricted: name, UT EID, school, major, school year, and email. FERPA mandates that if you restrict these fields, we cannot share them with the third-party software vendor that hosts HireUTexas. Current students can un-restrict their information.

Account Request Instructions:

  1. First, make sure your UT EID is active and you know your password by using the UT EID Self-Service Tools.
  2. You will use your UT EID credentials to log into Handshake.
  3. Next, update your directory information to ensure that the email address on file with the university is your utexas.edu address.
  4. Visit com and click “Sign up for account.”
  5. Use your utexas.edu email address to request your account. Be sure to include your UT EID in your request.

Don’t have a utexas.edu email address?
Please claim your utexas.edu email address and update your official email address on record with the university.

Make the Most of Your Account

Make your HireUTexas powered by Handshake account work for you. The more you use HireUTexas, the more relevant job and internship opportunities you’ll see – on your personalized home screen and through tailored emails. Follow these five tips to make the most of your account.

  1. Explore Career Paths: Read about different job categories and select the ones that interest you.
  2. Update Your Career Interests: The first time you log in, you will answer questions about your career interests. Be sure to update your answers regularly.
  3. Research Employers: Look at job postings and read reviews from students who’ve worked there in the past. Express your interest in a company by following them.
  4. Search and Favorite Jobs: Use filters when searching. Save your search criteria and favorite jobs that appeal to you. HireUTexas will email you opportunities that match your interests.
  5. Complete Your Profile: Upload your resume and let HireUTexas use it to populate your profile or complete your profile yourself. Highlight your skills and coursework. Then, employers can find you.
