Summer Exploration Grants
Texas Career Engagement will offer grants to first- and second-year students seeking funds for academic and career exploration and professional development for Summer 2023. Recipients of the Summer Exploration Grant are encouraged to be creative with their planned exploration or professional development opportunity. Since the program’s inception in 2010, recipients have put their grants toward a variety of diverse experiences, including:
- Attending a screenwriter’s workshop
- Taking culinary classes
- Participating in dental assistant training
- Creating a blog and podcast of interviews with people working in social justice
- Building a greenhouse and growing sustainable crops
- Participating in the Halliburton Summer Business Foundations Institute
- Teaching English to elementary students in Cuzco, Peru
Applications require students to communicate how their academic or career plans will benefit from the experience or resource.

Practice Interviewing with Big Interview
When preparing for a job interview, it’s not enough to solely read advice—you need to put that advice into practice! Big Interview is a powerful online tool that provides step–by–step hands–on practice with recorded mock interview question sets. Free to currently enrolled UT students, customize your own sets of questions tailored to your specific major or area of interest to simulate a real interview.
Schedule a Practice Interview on Campus: Try out your interview skills when the stakes are low! Some place to find practice or mock interview practice include college/school career centers, the Public Speaking Center and Texas Career Engagement. You can also sign up in Handshake to meet with a Longhorn Career Peer with Texas Career Engagement for a 30–minute mini mock interview. All you have to do is look for the “TCE Longhorn Career Peers Interview Strategies” appointment type. If you’ve never done a mock interview, this can be a great place to start!
